Genetic Registration
Tobianos, Overos, and Toveros can be registered as (R) Regular Registries. For Overo registration and Tobiano registration, applicants must provide DNA verification. We accept genetic testing for horses that was previously conducted for APHA or Pinto.

ATOA recognizes the following white-spotting genes for Permanent Registry consideration, which are critical for genetic testing for horses:
- Frame Overo (OLWS)
- Tobiano
- Sabino 1
- Splashed White 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8
- Dominant White 5, 10, 20, 22, 31, 32, 34, 35

To ensure accurate Overo registration and Tobiano registration, testing must be conducted through an ATOA-approved lab; we collaborate with all approved labs.
Solid Paint (AQHA, APHA): Registered as: (S) Solid. The horse must undergo genetic testing for horses, including Coat Color Pattern testing and genetic/DNA verification upon approval. Solids can be bred to registered ATOA Tobianos for their offspring to be eligible for Overo registration and Tobiano registration with ATOA.
